In Memory Of
Joan K. Olnhausen
1929 - 2022
A model registered nurse at St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center for 37-1/2 years - 26 of which were in the emergency room - Joan retired in 1994. She took exemplary care of every patient she ever attended to, often times giving the doctors their marching orders. After retirement, she experienced a trip of a lifetime to Rome and the Vatican in 2009. Joan also found great joy in volunteering for Central Catholic, the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary archives and Heartbeat of Toledo. She walked to daily mass at Rosary Cathedral where she was a parishioner for more than 60 years, and was frequently spotted carrying her porch chair to the sporting events and school activities of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren (she made nearly every game and performance!).
Surviving are her children Fred (Debbie), Mark (Joanne), Jeff (Marcy) and Scott; sister, Norine Begell, and brother, Marty Hettle (Sandy); 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Frederick (Ted); daughters Janet and Karen; and sisters Dede Hentges and Suzanne Matthews. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
Friends may visit at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH, from 9:30-11:00 am on Friday, August 5, where there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Rosary Cathedral Church, Central Catholic High School, Heartbeat of Toledo or to the donor's choice.
