In Memory Of
Janice Elaine Amsler
1927 - 2022

Janice Elaine (Opel) Amsler left this earth on January 13, 2022 at the age of 94, for a grand reunion in Heaven. She was the oldest of six, born in Deerfield, Michigan, October 7, 1927 to Adolph E. Opel and Julia D. (Stearns) Opel. She graduated from Addison, Michigan high school in 1945 and attended Adrian College for two years where she met her husband, Richard Amsler. They married in 1949, and raised their family in Toledo, Ohio.

Janice was co-leader of Girl Scout Troop 345 from Harvard Elementary School for five years, and active in the Harvard School’s Mother’s Club and PTA, during the years her children attended school there. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church since 1955, where she taught Sunday school, served on Church council, and was a devoted member of the Dorcas Circle. Janice also volunteered at Saint Luke’s Hospital in the gift shop and coffee cart, holding numerous board jobs with the auxiliary and serving as their president from 1999-2001. She was a talented and beautiful seamstress, sewing many outfits for herself and her daughters, including wedding dresses and attendant dresses. Later she sewed holiday dresses for her young granddaughters, and altered performance dresses for one of her musically talented granddaughters! She was a giver, a doer, always thinking of and looking out for others. Her unconditional love was unmatched even in the most challenging of times. A resilient, stoic and beautiful lady of faith will be remembered and missed by many.

Preceded in death by her husband, Richard of 58 years, three children, Linda Herzig in 1991, Mark 1973, and infant son, Brad in 1959, two sisters, and her parents.

Leaving to celebrate her life are her daughter, Bonnie and son-in-law Roger Ward, their three children Rachel (Timo) Lehtonen and their children Aubrey, Eliza and Cayden; Nathan (Nancy) Ward, Joshua Ward; and Linda’s four children, Melissa (Chris) Miller with children Rylie and Orion, Erika Herzig, Brent (Jessica) Herzig and Kendra Sadler (and children). She is also survived by a brother and two sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to friends, staff and caregivers at West Park Place, Lakes of Monclova and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family will receive guests Monday January 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will begin Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
