Celebrating the Life of Shirley Lisa Newell

Shirley Lisa Newell was born February 28, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Shafert Newell Sr. and Pauline Gavin Newell, who preceded her in death. Along with several of her brothers and sisters and her grandson Jonathan Bennett, who also preceded her in death.

She attended Hyde Park High School. Shirley met the love of her life, Robert Russell in 1962. They married in March of 1963. Robert aka (Bob) and Shirley had two children, Rodney and Rosalind. Several years later, the family was blessed with a little girl, Sandy.

For several years, Shirley worked as a teacher in the Head Start schools; years later she worked as a professional in the healthcare field. Shirley was an avid shopper, she loved Walmart. She enjoyed watching James Bond aka (007), Lifetime, and Hallmark channels. Shirley would throw a party in a minute, she loved entertaining people, She fancied herself to be a bartender aficionado.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory. Her children, Rodney (Shalanda) Russell Sr., Rosalind (Pastor Gregory) Bennett, and Sandy (Samuel) Smith. Her grandchildren, Marquitta Thompson, Rodney Russell Jr., Jasmine Bennett, Preanna Russell, Minister Jeremiah (Dominique) [U.S. Navy] Bennett, Keyasia Wilson, and Sa'Donna Smith and nine great grandchildren. Her brother, Bruce; her sisters, Paula, Ethel, Barbara, Sylvia, and Catherine and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Very special people, Frances Robinson, Netty Norris, Lewis Golson, Lisa Sacko, and Melvin Clark.
