She attended Hyde Park High School. Shirley met the love of her life, Robert Russell in 1962. They married in March of 1963. Robert aka (Bob) and Shirley had two children, Rodney and Rosalind. Several years later, the family was blessed with a little girl, Sandy.

For several years, Shirley worked as a teacher in the Head Start schools; years later she worked as a professional in the healthcare field. Shirley was an avid shopper, she loved Walmart. She enjoyed watching James Bond aka (007), Lifetime, and Hallmark channels. Shirley would throw a party in a minute, she loved entertaining people, She fancied herself to be a bartender aficionado.
