In Memory Of
Donald "Don" Mangold
1942 - 2021

Donald Mangold, age 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Don was born in Toledo, Ohio, on October 2, 1942. He was the eighth of eleven children born to Hazel and Howard Mangold. Growing up in a family with so many siblings, Don often talked fondly about stories from his childhood.

After attending Swanton High School, Don joined the United States Army. He was always proud of the time he spent in service to his country in the Armed Forces. After his discharge, Don married his loving wife, Mary, who he affectionately called “Winnie,” on March 31, 1967. The following year, in 1968, they had a son, James Eric, who lived only a short time, but touched their hearts forever. Don and Mary were blessed with a daughter, Christen Kaye, their “miracle baby,” in 1975. After her birth, Don accepted Christ as Savior and Lord of his life.

Don worked at the DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company for over 22 years, gaining a reputation there as a hard worker. While working at DeVilbiss Co., Don was also the owner of Toledo Lawn Care, Inc., a business he continued to operate until 2016.

Don’s Christian faith was central throughout his life. He was involved in various faith organizations, including the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, where he proudly served as the Chapter President for many years. He was also involved with the Toledo Area Ministries Board and The Gideons International. Don was a very active member in his local church, Trinity Church of the Nazarene, where he attended for over 50 years, serving as a missionary president and board member.

Don was a kind and generous man, a loving husband to his wife of 54 years, a wonderful father, a proud grandpa to his five grandchildren, and a hard worker throughout his entire life. He enjoyed volunteering his time outside the home, but he especially loved spending time with his family, who he loved dearly.

Donald is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Christen (Burke) Davis; five grandchildren: Claire Davis, Seth Davis, Benjamin Davis, Emma Davis, and Isabelle Davis; three sisters; Lois Meyer, Marian (Ike) Braucher, and Loretta Kennedy; five brothers, William Mangold, Lawrence Mangold, Gerald (Judy) Mangold, Michael Mangold, and David (Joan) Mangold; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his infant son, James Eric; parents, Hazel (Reed) Mangold and Howard Mangold; and two brothers, Kenneth Mangold and Howard Mangold Jr.

The family will receive guests on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to The Gideons International, an organization with which Don was personally involved.
