James Lawrence Brighton, age 78, of Toledo, passed away January 9, 2021 at his home. James was born November 18, 1942 in Toledo to the late James Brighton and Mary (Parks) Duckworth. He attended Central Catholic High School. James was very outgoing with a great sense of humor. He had a passion serving as a volunteer at the Lucas County Children’s Services at Christmas time and was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. James was a lifetime traveler of the U.S. and supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Research. He was a very loving Uncle to his nephews. In his quiet time, James could be found reading non-fiction books and cuddled with his feline companion, “Bully.”

In addition to his parents, James was also preceded by his Step-Father, Donald Duckworth . He is survived by his Siblings, Diane Thomas and Michael (Sue) Brighton; Nephews, Tom, Tod, Timothy, Michael, Matthew, Brian and Jeremy; and many friends.

The family will receive guests from 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home; 4150 W. Laskey, Toledo (419)473-0300. Burial will take place at 1:00pm on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Toledo Memorial Park.
