In Memory Of
Jessie Greer
1953 - 2020

With a confessed faith and hope in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend Jessie Greer transitioned earthly life to his eternal life on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio. Jessie was born January 10, 1953 in Drew, Mississippi to union of Charlie and Katie (Biddle) Greer. Jessie was the second youngest child of six siblings, and he was named after his Uncle Jessie Gray, his father’s brother.

Jessie confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age in Drew, Mississippi and was baptized in Quiver River (The same river that Civil Rights Activist ‘Fannie Lou Hamer was baptized). Jessie united with Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an usher. In 1988 Jessie located to Chicago, IL after the passing of his father and became a member of New Mt. Valley Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L.A Mays, where he remained until the passing of Pastor Mays. Later, Jessie joined New Way Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dewayne McDaniel where he served as a Deacon. In June, 2019 Jessie relocated to Toledo, OH to live with his sister Mary. On June 30, 2019 he joined Friendly Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rufus G Middleton where he continued in Deacon’s Ministry until his health failed. Deacon Greer was known as a faithful servant of Christ at the Friendly Missionary Baptist Church.

Jessie was known by many for his quick wit and good sense of humor. He loved to go to church and he loved family. He also loved to eat and most of the times food that he shouldn’t eat. Jessie considered Fridays as ‘fish day’ therefore the family would enjoy fish with him. Jessie never met a stranger, upon his arrival to Toledo he met many new friends including those at the J. Frank Troy Senior Center where he participated in daily activities and field trips.

Jessie was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Katie Mae (Biddle) Greer; three brothers Hunly Wright, Honest “ Billy” and Youthers Greer and one sister Mrs. Ruby Biddle Ratliff. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jessie Mae Greer of Meridian, MS; one son, John Greer of Clarksdale, MS: three daughters; Liz Anderson of Meridian MS, Shavon Greer of Grenada, MS and Tina Greer of Tutwiler, MS.; One loving and devoted sister, Mary Greer Vallier of Toledo, OH; special nieces, Lou Ella Ratliff of Lithia Springs GA, Tenisha Vallier of Toledo, OH; special nephews, Terrence(Andranae) and Minister Christopher(Tiffany) Vallier of Toledo, OH ; two special great nieces; Marynthia ‘NeNe’ Vallier and Twyla Marae Vallier, and special friend Essie Stewart of Chicago, IL and a host of cousins and friends.
