1946 - 2020

Herbert “Herb” Andrew Higgins, Jr., age 73, passed Monday, May 25, 2020 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Herb was born on December 31, 1946 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Herbert, Sr. and Doris (Goodman) Higgins.

Herb graduated from Waite High School in Toledo prior to joining the United State Marine Corp in July of 1965. He served in Viet Nam until May of 1969, during his tour, not only did Herb earn the Rank of Sgt E-5, but he also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and Marksman Badge Rifle.

Herb was an active member of Power House Tabernacle Church, he loved his garden, fishing and his tractors.

Left to cherish Herb’s memory his loving wife, Bobbie Jean-Higgins; sons, Herbert Andrew (Cheryl) Higgins, III and Michael Jason Higgins; grandsons, William and Sean Higgins; in-laws, Michael and Joy Awls, Edward and Gail Awls, and Rosayln Awls; favorite aunts, Jessie Awls, Joyce Neal of Toledo, Ohio, and Ellamae “Aunt Frosty” Hammond of Dayton, Ohio; God sons, Brandon and Loney Awls; special daughters, LaHoma and LaRae Barnes, DeAnna K Brown-Patton, and Shonna Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Herb was preceded in death by his brother, George “Skippy” Daniel Higgins; step-father, Curtis Bishop; and brother-in-law, Claude Awls.

Due to the current circumstances services for Herb are private. He will be laid to rest at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
