David A. Gillespie

April 21, 1948 — August 18, 2017

David Allen Gillespie, age 69, of Toledo, passed away August 18, 2017, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, at Heritage Village of Waterville. David was born April 21, 1948 in Toledo to Harold and June (Walmsley) Gillespie. He married Shirley Balduf July 12, 1969. He was a graduate of Whitmer High School and earned an Associate Degree from University of Toledo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a product designer in the automotive industry for several years. David was a member of First Christian Church of Sylvania and a member of the NRA. He was a model train enthusiast, and enjoyed gun collecting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Gillespie, daughter, Jillian M. (John) Wagner, 2 brothers, Gary (Deb) Gillespie and Rich (Lori) Gillespie, step-mother, Mary Gillespie, grandchildren, Kyle Wagner, Luke Wagner and Samantha (Nick) Johnson, and great-grandson, Caiden Johnson.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service celebrating Dave's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the First Christian Church 5271 W. Alexis Road Sylvania, Ohio.

Memorial contributions in Dave's memory may be made to First Christian Church or veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
