In Memory Of
Donna Lee Kern
1933 - 2022

Our beloved mother Donna “Bunny” Kern passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022, after she very bravely battled dementia. Born on December 19, 1933, in Toledo, she was raised on North Haven Ave. by our wonderful grandparents, William and Marion Nichols. Bunny graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1951 and maintained many of her friendships throughout her life. Bunny attended The University of Toledo and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Bunny married Ernest Kern in 1954 and they share five kids, six grandkids, and three great-grandkids, as well as forty-one very happy years together. If ever two people were soulmates, they were! Bunny served our family as well as a strong and wise matriarch and she loved it! She was a devoted daughter, an adoring and supportive wife, a hands-on, dependable, ever-present mother, a crazy fun grandmother, and a mind-blowing great grandmother. She gave everyone a soft place to land in life. She always took care of everyone and she was the queen of fun in our family! How lucky we are to have had her as our mother!

Anyone who knew Bunny experienced her effervescent and powerful personality. She was beautiful, charismatic, clever, hilarious, crazy, and loving. She had an empathetic ear, and a kind heart and she probably fed you more than once. She opened her home to many, many people over the years. All her advice we bucked for so long has proved she was right every time. Our mommy was the wildest one in the room and her stories are legendary. People were drawn to her aura and she always had a captive audience.
Left to cherish memories of Bunny is her family: Scott and Julie Kern, Susan Kern, Terri Kern, and Kim and John Adams; her beloved grandkids Erika (Colin) Halsey, Dana Kern, Michael Kern, Emily Kern, Amanda Kern, and Katie Adams; her adorable great-grandkids Connor and Kaylee Halsey and Delaney Kern. Bunny lost her parents in the ’80s, Ernie in 1995, and her son Richard Kern in 2016.

To Kathy Talley-Taylor who also took care of our beloved Jenny Moragne, thank you for the loving care you gave Bunny. She loved you so much and we do too!

We are very grateful to everyone at The Goerlich Center - Amy, Lori, Reagan - all of you. Every day you take care of those patients you earn another jewel in your crown. We’ll never forget your kindness.

Services will be private at a later date per Bunny’s wishes. Please raise a glass to Bunny Kern! Dementia robbed her of her ability to talk! She now has a new audience with whom she can share her stories and we’re joyful her struggle is over! She’s reunited with her beloved parents, husband, and son, all of whom she missed terribly!

Thank you mommy for everything! We love you so much!
