In Memory Of
Sean Patrick O'Mara
1970 - 2022
Sean was a proud 1988 graduate of Central Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from The University of Toledo.
Sean was a lifelong advocate of equality, liberty and social justice for all people, especially those with disabilities. Camp Cricket was fundamental in establishing his passion for assisting others. There he served as camper, counselor and director. Sean also served on the Board of Trustees at the Ability Center of Greater Toledo for many years. He was dedicated to ensuring the regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) were met by businesses throughout the city. In 2009, The Diocese of Toledo presented Sean with the Concerned Citizen Award as a servant leader.
Sean lived and loved intensely. He was a fierce competitor in all things and excelled in the Cerebral Palsy Games, Endeavor Games, and Toledo Crash football team. He had an infectious and loyal personality, with a smile that would radiate throughout any room. He was protective and proud of his role as the oldest brother to four siblings. His greatest joy were his nieces and nephews, and he lit up while bragging and sharing stories about them. He was passionate about Notre Dame football. A stubborn Irishman born with cerebral palsy, Sean never allowed any limits to be placed on him. He welcomed, confronted, and conquered any challenge he faced. He had his own home and cherished holiday gatherings. Exercising his supreme independence, he was often spotted cruising on the busiest streets to get around town. Sean made a large impact on everyone he encountered, never meeting a stranger. His example of immense strength, endless patience, and compassion will be forever in our hearts. He will be so dearly missed.
Sean is survived by his loving and dedicated parents; siblings: Ryan (Liz) O’Mara, Conor (Richelle) O’Mara, Meghann (Chris) Jones and Kevin O’Mara; nieces and nephews: Hailey, Max, Aidan, Conlan, Vivian, James, Delaney and Maguire; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and treasured friends.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Sean's funeral mass will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Rosary Cathedral Parish, 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43610, at 11:00 am, with Fr. Robert Reinhart officiating.
