Maria Luisa "Licha" Mireles
1932 - 2020

Maria “Licha” Luisa Mireles passed away this week on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Licha was born to Guadalupe and Felicitas Mireles on August 19, 1932 in Villaldama Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Andrea (Jesse) Gonzales, Erlinda (Jesse) Escobedo, Josie Mireles, Guadalupe “Lupe” Mireles and brother Juan “Johnny” Mireles and brother-in-law, Roger Zeigler. She leaves behind her sister, Maria Zeigler; brother, Jesse (Allen) Mireles; sister-in-law, Adelina Mireles and a large family of beloved “favorite” nieces and nephews residing mostly in the Ohio area but also in Texas and throughout the country.

Licha retired from the former Mercy Hospital where she worked starting at age 18. With only an elementary school education in Mexico, she worked most of her years at Mercy as manager of the laundry department.

When it came to family, she was our matriarch. She was selfless, steadfast and a model of what it means to be loyal.

Before and after retirement she dedicated herself as caregiver for her mother Felicitas and her sister Josie. In her family she prided herself as the cook and the keeper of her mother’s delicious Mexican recipes. To her family, friends and coworkers she expressed her love in many ways but one of her favorites was to cook her amazing meals for small and major events, everything from birthdays to weddings and funerals. She was known for her quick wit, orneriness, sarcastic humor and a loving big heart.

Celebration of Life for Licha will be announced at a later date. Licha’s remains will be cremated.

We continue to love her dearly and will miss her tremendously.
