Donnie Lee Hayes, age 57, of Toledo, OH passed away after an extended illness early on Monday afternoon, June 29, 2020, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Donnie was born October 22, 1962 in Toledo, OH. He is the son of Osey and Ruby(Jenkins) Hayes.
In 1982, Donnie graduated from Robert S. Rogers High School. After graduation, he became a machinist building transmissions while working for Doehler-Jarvis. Donnie was very much a "people person," never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, playing cards, telling jokes and making people laugh. In short he was the "life of the party." Donnie was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing and watching all sports. He was an extremely hard worker, always provided for his family and was a good father to his children. When his granddaughter Christianna was born, she quickly became the love of his life. Donnie will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is the mother to his children, Jacqueline Renee Lee. Together they created a legacy consisting of sons, Donnie L. Hayes, Jr. and Darnell Marquise Hayes; daughter, Donetta Hayes; granddaughter, Christianna "Poo-Poo" Hayes-Maddox. Donnie is also survived by his brothers, Neman Lee (Dorothy) Hayes and Mikel James Jenkins; sisters, Pearlie Mae Thompson, Ella Jean Coleman, Betty Jean Hills, Julie Ann Bell and Brenda Pettaway. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and close friends.
Along with his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his daughter, Donesha Renee Hayes; brother, Ossie Thomas Hayes and sisters, Inetta Hayes and Kay Marie Jenkins.
The family will receive guests on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church located at 4207 Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623. Donnie's funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 am with Pastor Duke Crawford officiating. Interment will be held at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. As a result of Covid-19 and for public safety, there will be no repast after the funeral.
