In Memory Of
Gloria J. "Bainzo" Kasten
1943 - 2019

On Sunday, April 7, 2019 Gloria “Bainso” Kasten, age 75, of Toledo, went home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Born June 29, 1943 her story began. She was the middle sister in a polish home nuzzled in the heart of Toledo. Gloria is an alumnus of DeVilbiss High School and was a state board certified nail technician.

Gloria wasted no time finding the love of her life. At 12 years old, she saw a bright shiny turquoise 55 Chevy convertible parked at Stewerd’s Gas Station in Swanton. Gloria walked across the street from the family restaurant and asked the clerk at the desk, “Can I have some change?” Not only did he give her change, he made her his beautiful bride. On July 4, 1959 “Toots” married Fred and became a Kasten. Two handsome boys came along just a few short years later, Timothy and Alan. And boy did they give her a run for their money! Gloria loved being a wife and mother, as long as she didn’t have to cook! She wasn’t cut out for working, she tried it once or twice; who would have known you can’t graze on the chicken at KFC and not get fired!

On April 25, 1965 she accepted Jesus Christ into her heart and was born again. Melodies of Jimmy Swaggert and Southern gospel filled her home with praise. Gloria’s prayers were uplifting, meaningful and powerful.

“Mimi” had four beautiful grandchildren that became her whole world. They couldn’t make it out of her presence without sneaking them a few bucks and swearing them to secrecy not to tell grandpa. Additionally Gloria became a great-grandmother to four. One even born on her birthday and that was very special to her.

You knew you were loved if you opened your mailbox and got one of her famous letters! Gloria did not miss a beat and made sure we all knew what was going on within the family and the latest gossip. She was the Queen of stickers and white out. Gloria left a standing impression on everyone she met with love, kindness, generosity and sass!

She will be welcomed at the pearly gates by her parents, Fred and Virginia Slawski; siblings, Robert and Shirley; and granddaughter, Haley. Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Fred; sons, Timothy (Carol) and Alan (Lisa); siblings, Kathy (Hank) Tripsess; grandchildren, Crystal (Ulyess), Collin, Cory, and Caleb (Reem); great-grandchildren, Jasiri, Jahzara, Braylon, and Braxtyn; special friends, Nitza, MaryAnn, June and Flo; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other friends.

The family would like to give a huge thank you to friends and family during the past days, weeks, months for all of your love and support.
We would also like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, Kellie, Martin, Dion, Donna, Carolyn, Michelle and Ginger; you have given exceptional care and we are forever grateful.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 2 – 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd., Toledo 43617 (419-392-9500) with A Celebration of Life beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Spirit of Truth Church, 525 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, OH 43616.
Gloria has donated her body to science to find a cure to CHF.
