Herbert J. LaButte, age 78, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully with his family and friends by his side on December 15, 2018. Herbert was born February 13, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Herbert and Eva (Roessler) LaButte.

He attended and graduated with his Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Michigan. Later he attended Bowling Green State University and acquired his Master of Business Administration. Herb was very proud of his work and for 8 years was an Advanced Concepts Design Engineer with LTV Aerospace.

Herb spent the next 29 years with DANA Corporation working in various engineering and managerial roles. In 1976 he was named Senior Planning Analyst for the former Industrial Power Transmission Division in Warren, MI. In 1985 he pioneered the newest emerging technology- PC’s and local area networks. He then retired in 2001 to spend more time with family and friends.

He took up a second career during his retirement as a proud dog trainer with good friend Jeff Coleson. Their prison dog training program was featured on Animal Planet. He loved working on projects around the house, working on cars, and introducing the grandchildren to math. His family will miss his wealth of knowledge, interesting phrases, family words, and his passion for learning.

In addition to his parents Herbert was preceded in death by his Grandson, Nicholas Hall.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Louise Marie LaButte; Son, Jeff (Kristen); Daughters, Jennifer (Dennis) Hall, Julie (Andrew) Oberhaus; Grandchildren, Dyson, Tucker, Nathan, Amelia, Aiden and many friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 10:00 ~ 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd. Toledo, OH 43617, (419) 392-9500.

A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Ave, Toledo, OH 43615.
