Mildred "Millie" Elizabeth Zolg
1918 - 2015

Millie Zolg’s “nine lives” finally ended Thursday afternoon September 10, 2015 as she died peacefully at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. In her 2 year residence her independent spirit and “lite up the room” smile was reciprocated by the loving care provided by the staff which was greatly appreciated by “Millie’s boys” i.e. her 3 sons.

Millie was born June 1, 1918 on a farm near Paducah Kentucky, the 5th of 6 children to Ed and Zoda Carrico. At age 11 the family moved to Toledo where she resided the rest of her life. She attended St. Anne’s elementary school and was an honor student at Scott High School class of ‘36.

She met her future husband Gene while working at the former Toledo Scale company and they wed in June of 1942, a marriage that lasted 55 years and produced 4 children.

A devout Catholic, Millie’s strong faith helped her prevail in the mid ‘90s where she survived major heart surgery in ’95, followed by the deaths of her only daughter Sister Lynda, CSJ. in '96 and her husband Gene in ‘97.

Millie’s strong will and spirit enabled her to remain independent through 94 years until health issues intervened the last 3 years of her life to slow her down.

Besides working for Lindsay Realty for over 30 years, Millie was Active in the 50+ club in her parish (Gesu) and the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary Guild. Millie also gave generously to numerous charities and causes both Catholic and secular.

Millie was a unique person with a strong personality who shown brightest when her love and compassion was needed. She was loved not just by immediate family members but by anyone who encountered her generous heart and will never be forgotten.

Millie is survived by 3 sons Skip, Phillip (Susan Brass), and David (Karen); grandchildren Nathan (Natalie), Emily Moody (Rob), and Keith McRitchie (Angie); Great grandchildren Hope Lynn and Everett; numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gesu Church, Parkside Blvd, Toledo. The family will receive guests for one hour prior to Mass.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
