James J. "Coach P" Petiniot

Jim retired from The City of Toledo after 31 years, and served in the U.S. Army. He was one of the founding members of the Toledo Road-Runners Club and was a nationally ranked ultra marathoner. Jim coached a youth hockey team taking them to the national championships, as well as coaching a men’s softball team that went to nationals. He founded The Toledo Alive Track Club. Jim provided athletes an opportunity to compete nationally. He was a mentor to all and was a father-figure to many as a track and cross-country coach for over 30 years at OLPH and Central Catholic High Schools.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 43 years, Char; children, Paul Petrie, Laura (Thomas) Strasser, Patrick (Leslie), Chance (Tara); sister, Tina (Tom) Mozejko; grandchildren, William, Austin, Kortnie, Kendra, Samantha, Jackson, C.J., Andy, Ian and Gavin; great-grandsons, Bryce and Ryder. He was preceded in death by his sister, Trish and granddaughter, Ella.
The family will receive guests on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd.
Jim’s Family is setting up a scholarship fund to continue his legacy of developing athletes. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions may be made to: The Toledo Alive Track Club.
