In Memory Of
Joseph P. Scroggs Jr.
1955 - 2015
He is survived by his mother Kathy Wells (Bunten), many brothers and sisters, wife, Connie Scroggs (Pocock), and children Billy (Sarah) Scroggs, Laura Scroggs, Jon Scroggs, and Michelle Connerton, grandchildren Kenna Sue Scroggs, Lainey Mae Scroggs, and Casey Connerton. He is preceded in death by his father William Wells.
Joe was born on June 19, 1955 in Brazil, Indiana. He joined the Navy in 1972 and served as an E3 Seaman. In 1975, he left the Navy and settled in Toledo, Ohio. After he graduated from the police academy, he became a Deputy Sheriff for the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office. Over his 28 year career, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, a position that put him in charge of over 50 officers, including his son, Billy.
In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent a great deal of time at his lake side camp ground in Michigan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe will be remembered as a kind and loyal friend and father. His good nature and patience were a model for the many people he mentored. Even in the most challenging times Joe sought to find the humor in everyday life and to help others see it too.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, The Victory Center, and Nightingale's Harvest for their care and support.
The family will receive guests Monday, July 6, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300).
