John moved to Toledo with his family in 1964. After graduating from Whitmer High School in 1968, he served 3 tours in Vietnam with the United States Navy on the USS Katmai AE16 and was honorably discharged on February 02, 1973. After returning home from Vietnam, John was united in marriage to Catherine A. Beringer in Toledo, Ohio on October 6, 1973.
John enjoyed riding motorcycles, working in the yard, enjoying nature and taking his Jeep off-road. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather who would do anything for his family and friends. He retired from Conrail after 20 years and was a dedicated member of the Vietnam Vets MC.
Survivors include his Wife, Catherine A Bumbaugh of 45 years; Son, Stephen (Brianna) R. Bumbaugh; Grand-daughter, Audrey Violet Bumbaugh; Sister, Janie Owen, Sister, Susan Fortney, Sister, Sally Wasielewski Blanton, Sister, Margaret Ciesinski; his beloved dog Stanley; and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive guests for visitation on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Newcomer Southwest Chapel 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614 (419) 381-1900. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a Graveside service to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
