Mary Alice Powell born September 25, 1946, departed March 15, 2018. Mary Alice was the third born to the union of Chester and Allean (Simmons) Powell, in St. Louis, Missouri. The family relocated to Holland, Ohio when Mary Alice was young.

Mary Alice graduated from Spencer-Sharples High School. Mary received her Associates degree from Stautzenberger College. She retired from the Toledo Board of Education. Mary accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful and long-time member of Greater St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. Mary Alice loved shopping for bargains, sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, loved gardening, especially her flowers. She had a green thumb. She was loved by many and her church. Her children were her church, her children were her sunshine, her grandchildren meant the world to her. Mary Alice did not let nothing stop her even when she was not feeling good. She was a woman on a mission to see and visit anyone. Charles was her whole world.

She was preceded in death by both parents, brother, Freddie; sisters, Ethel Powell and Shirley Powell Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memory son, Brian and daughter, Stacey Powell; grandchildren, Kenneth, Kevin, Victoria, Brian Jr., Brandon, Bryson and Derrick; great-grandchildren, La’Miyah Gauldin, Jo’Von Gauldin, Miles Austin, Cali Austin, Mahlia Austin and Kenneth Powell Jr.; brothers, Chester and Charles Powell and uncle, L.B. Powell of Holland, Ohio; aunt, Neomia Powell of Toledo, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Wake will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Greater St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church, 416 Belmont, Toledo, Ohio, with Pastor Robert Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
