Mary Jo Lotte, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017 at the Temperance, MI home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she resided for the last four years.

Born on February 18, 1930 in Tiffin, Ohio to Gilbert and Gertrude (Scharf) Marks. Mary Jo grew up in Fostoria, Ohio. She graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1948, and then continued her education in Toledo at St. Vincent School of Nursing, graduating in 1951.

Mary Jo worked as an RN in Pediatrics at St. Vincent Hospital (now Mercy) for the next 38 years. She was a cherished, compassionate and loving nurse and a great Mentor.

Mary Jo was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church for over 50 years, St. Vincent Alumni Association and the former St. Vincent Retiree’s Group.
She married James Lotte on July 28, 1951, and they were married for 54 years till his passing in 2005. They had 3 children. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt who cared deeply for her family, extended family and her Catholic faith. Mary Jo saw only the good in others and never spoke ill of anyone. She was truly loved by all who knew her. She was a great cook and was always trying to feed anyone that came into her home. She enjoyed spending time with family at their cottage on Posey Lake after retiring.

Preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Gertrude Marks, husband James and grandson Maxx Lotte. She is survived by her sons Mike Lotte, Mark (Sue) Lotte and daughter Kathy (Bob) Kwiatkowski. Grandchildren, Jeff (Kristina) Lotte, Tracy (Jeramiah) Przybylski, Courtney May, Jenny Lotte, Christina Lotte, Ryan (Katie) Kwiatkowski, Ross (Lindsey) Kwiatkowski and Rob Kwiatkowski; sisters, Rosemary (Dick) Koziarski and Charlene Pahl.; eighteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Clement Catholic Church, 3030 Tremainsville Rd., Toledo, on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10 a.m., officiated by Father Frank Speier. The family will receive guests at 9:00 a.m. in the church prior to the Mass. Newcomer – Northwest Chapel (419-473-0300) is assisting the family.

We would like to give special thanks to Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their excellent care of Mary Jo in her final days. Also, a thank you to Cindy Bear, her compassionate caregiver for the past several years. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
