Catherine Helen “Catie” (O’Connor) Jacquot
August 16 1923 - December 3, 2017

"First of five children born August 16, 1923 to Catherine Margaret (Chandler) O'Connor, of Toledo and Timothy John O’Connor, Sr. of Ireland. Catie died Sunday, December 3, 2017 with her family by her side. She grew up during the depression and learned the value of being careful with her money and working hard from her parents. Catie graduated from Waite High School, and worked at Ohio Bell and Owens Corning and was engaged to Al Miller, who joined the Air Force in WWII but did not return. She attended Ohio State University where she met and married Willard Jacquot, and they had 2 children, Lynn Catherine and Curt Jacquot.

Catie graduated from University of Toledo with a B.A. in Education, and then Bowling Green University for her Masters. She taught in Toledo Public Schools at Crossgates for 27 years. Mom loved teaching, loved her students and was dedicated to ensuring teachers had pay schedules and health care, as they did not when she started her career. A proud lifetime member of the TFT and AFT unions she believed teaching a valuable profession that should encourage career enrichment, professional mentoring and accountability. Her students' successes made her very happy, and she was always pleased to hear they were well. After retiring, she was also the president of the LCRTA (Lucas County Retired Teachers Association).

Catie loved to laugh, ice cream, being Irish and Christmas Eve at her niece Linda Woggerman’s home, and funny hats on Christmas Day. Catie played tennis well into her 70’s, and attended U.S. Open matches. She attended many Mud Hens games, and was known in our family as the unofficial manager. Peanuts/Charlie Brown and Frank Sinatra were touchstones; she also loved to travel and after retiring had many adventures. She loved her children fiercely and was a great mom and mom in law who encouraged independence and standing up for what you believe in. She will be missed so very much.

Catherine is survived by her children, Lynn Catherine (Joseph Saine) Jacquot and Curt Jacquot; special daughter-in-law, Cathy Saine; sisters, Patricia Burcin and Bethanne (Robert) Bateman; and many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Penny Tucker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Timothy and Robert O’Connor; her niece, Susan Irwin and her beloved dog, Lady.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially Melissa and Sarah and beloved son-in-law, Joseph Saine, Cathy Saine, Pat Burcin and Sue Michael who helped care for her over the last 4 years. May the road rise up to meet you Mom.
