Nelson Earl “Gus” Yeager, 79, of Toledo, Ohio, entered the presence of his Lord October 6, 2017, surrounded by family.

Gus was born January 30, 1938¬ to the late Waldo and Olive Yeager in Toledo, Ohio.

Gus graduated from The University of Toledo in 1960. He was employed at the family business, Cortland Produce, later acquired by Seaway Foodtown where he worked as head of maintenance, engineering and construction. Gus left there to work at Daniel James Insurance which also allowed him to spend more time to serve the Lord in a number of ministries. Eventually, he had an opportunity to minister full-time with Christian Service, Inc. Gus either started or served in the following ministries: Campus Crusade for Christ at The University of Toledo, Christian Service Inc., Children’s Outreach Ministries, The “I Found It!” Campaign in Toledo, Toledo Christian Schools, WLMB-TV-40-Toledo, YMCA Christian Emphasis and Francis Family YMCA, Chaplaincy for Toledo Mud Hens, UT Rockets Football team, Volunteer mentoring program at the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center, Christian Fellowship Youth Group Leader for over 30 years, Toledo Community Leaders Prayer breakfast (currently in its 28th year), and Several area churches: Christian Fellowship of Toledo, First Alliance Church, Washington Church, and Westgate Chapel.

Left to cherish Gus’ memory is his loving wife, of 55 years, Evelyn; children, Matt (Wendy) Yeager and Janelle (Mike) Metzger; grandchildren, Ruth (Jerry) Skiver, Ellie (Mike) Nowowiejski, Debbie (Caleb) Altman, Tabi (Ted) Weemes, David (Liz) Metzger, Hannah (Kevin) Nelson, Lydia Yeager, Sam (Marquita) Metzger, Josh Yeager; great grandchildren, Priya, Judah, Brinley, Ariella; and brother, Wally (Joyce) Yeager.

The family will be receiving guests Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419 381 1900). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Westgate Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Acts 2 Toledo c/o Gus Yeager Memorial Fund at PO Box 2842 Toledo, Ohio 43606. The fund will support Christian ministry in Toledo through Acts 2 Toledo and Water for Ishmael.
