1929 - 2017

Betty Lou (Schieb) Bailey, age 87, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Heartland of ProMedica, Sylvania surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 3, 1929 to August and Alta (Knisel) Merz in Sylvania. Betty worked at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park for 18 years in Administration. She enjoyed traveling, music, gardening and loved the Lord. Betty loved nothing more than spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Edwin Schieb and Edwin Bailey; son, David Schieb; sister, Irene Syacsure; and brother, Rudolph Merz. Betty is survived by her loving daughters, Esther (John) Feyes, Ruth (Richard) Stiff and Doris (Gary) Wood; grandchildren, Aaron (Christy), Jennifer (Robert), Andrew (Amanda), Julia (Kristopher), Jason (Melody), Matthew, Brian, Daniel, Lindsey (Kenny) and Elizabeth; 8 beautiful great-granddaughters; daughter-in-law, Debra (Schieb) Peugh; brother, August (Margie) Merz; sister-in-law, Shirley Merz; many special nieces and nephews; and her special dog, Mike.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday 4 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Rd., Toledo with visitation one hour prior at church. Officiating will be Pastor Paul Matthiesen. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Cancer Society or Ashanti Hospice.
