Douglas S. “Doug” Varner, age 61, of Lambertville, MI passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 17, 1955 to Nathan and Arlene (Reed) Varner in Toledo. Doug was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and being in the woods. He obtained his Pilot’s license so he could fly; he enjoyed scuba diving, bungee jumping, anything to just be outside.

Doug worked at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for 15 years as an electrician as well as Local 8 for many years. He also did construction work for many years with Local 248 .

His grandchildren were a major part of his life, he spent a lot of time with them. Doug was a man who would do anything for anyone, especially his kids and grandkids.

Doug is survived by his loving parents, Nate and Arlene Varner; daughter, Shannon Varner; son, Jason (Rachel) Varner; beloved grandchildren, Jared, Amber, Avery, Alexis, Brody, Xander, Payton and Hailey; brothers, Gary and Mark Varner; former spouse and friend, Laura Varner; nieces, Jenny (Richie) Jagodzinski, Julie (Brad) Kurdziel, Michelle (Chris) Wright and Anna Varner; special friends, Arist “Jr” and Zepha Kunz, Ron and Sue Dashner and Brian and Janet McAtee; and many friends.

The family will receive guests on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Burial Services for Doug will be Private at a later date.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider ProMedica Hospice.
