Mattie L. Wallace, age 90, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home in Maumee, Ohio.

Mattie was born in Opelika, Alabama on July 6, 1927 to the union of Bud and Lulabelle Pollard. She attended grade school in Alabama and finished her education in Toledo, Ohio by attending adult night school classes while working and taking care of her family. Mattie was formerly married to the late Benny Wallace, Sr. and to that union was born two children, Benny Wallace, Jr. (deceased) and Barbara J. Ifeduba of Toledo, Ohio. Over the course of her professional life, she served as the Assistant Director of Housekeeping at Parkview Hospital and also owned and operated a daycare center in her home for several years until her health failed. Throughout her life, Mattie lived by her devotion to her faith and was a former member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and St. James Church of God.

Mattie was preceded in death by her son, Benny Wallace, Jr. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Barbara J. Ifeduba; two grandchildren, Stephen E. Ifeduba, Esq. (Terri) of Columbus, Ohio, and Iesha Denise Wallace; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren all of South Bend, Indiana.

The family will receive guests on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio (419-381-1900). The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James H. Willis, Sr. officiating. Interment will be at The Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
