Carl met his beloved wife, Hatsuse (Misa) of 63 years in Japan. After their wedding, they lived together in Japan for 18 months prior to moving to the U.S. The couple renewed their wedding vows multiple times.
He was the proprietor of a building and remodeling business for over 30 years, and later worked at Parkview Hospital.
Carl loved to travel; family camping destinations included national parks throughout the U.S. and Canada, coast-to-coast. Carl and Hatsuse (Misa) traveled to Europe, Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, Central America, the Caribbean and the Galapagos Islands.
Carl is survived by his wife, Hatsuse (Misa); children, Susan, Mark, Maureen (Ken) Case and Carson; grandchildren, Telly, Sarah, Hannah and Andrea and dear friends, Dr. and Mrs. David Kawakami. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen (Kertesz) Kovach; siblings, Helen (William) Walters, Irene (Florian) Kaszynski and Joseph (Florence) Kovach; daughter-in-law, Mary McDougall Kovach and grandchildren, Sonya, Michael and Jessica.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900) where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2500 North Reynolds Road, Toledo, OH 43615 in Carl's memory.
