Mary Alice (Gillaspy) Edgar
1924 - 2017

Mary Alice (Gillaspy) Edgar, age 93, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 18, 1924 to Rowland and Zelma (Bellville) Gyger in Bedford, Indiana. Mary Alice devoted her life to serving the Lord by helping others. She was a lifetime Bible student and teacher. Her every breath was devoted to God, as she truly lived for Him. Mary Alice was loving, kind, humble, and so extremely compassionate. She was Parish Visitor at First Congregational Church, Director of non-medical care at Sunshine Children’s Home until retiring and then went on to work at Bittersweet Farms in administration. Mary Alice loved music, painting, gardening, genealogy, poetry, writing, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Wherever she was, there was laughter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry Jeffries; and husbands, Edward Gillaspy and John Edgar. Mary Alice is survived by her loving children, Joy Jeffries, Kathy (Victor) Botz and Linden (Daryl) Gillaspy; grandchildren, Melissa, Lucretia, Felicia, Brendon, Jeremy, Crystal, and Tiffany; and great-grandchildren, Laughton, Victoria, Connor, Mikenna, Matson, and Brendon.

The family will receive guests on Sunday from 4 – 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Sunshine Children’s Home.
