Vera Cramer, age 94, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Toledo Hospital. She was born on November 25, 1922 to Petrov and Daria Laschenko in the Krivoy Rog, Ukraine. She survived the holodomor famine in Russia and was taken to Germany as a prisoner. Vera met the love of her life, Don shortly after she was liberated from a German labor camp during WWII. Don arrived in Germany during WWII on the Normandy beach invasion while serving in the U.S. Army. He was determined to make Vera his war bride.

Vera worked in the food service department as a cashier at the University of Toledo for many years, later retiring. She made many friends; everyone loved her welcoming smile and adorable accent. Her family will always remember her for the love that she had for them, living life to its fullest, her cat, warm weather and the trips to Florida. She was loving and kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lili (Paul) Hibbard, Nona (Paul) Pawlowicz, Annette Gernheuser and Lynnette (Michael) Bugaj; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve), Heather (Taylor), Gabrielle (Spencer), Matthew (Leah), Allison (Sean) and Mike; great-grandchildren, Alex, Ben, Hazel, Maxwell, Luke, Noah, Mia, Aidan, Reece, Graham and Nolan and sister in law, Patricia Brunner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Don.

The family will receive guests on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
