Gloria Dee (Byrd) Hess
1931 - 2016

Gloria Dee Hess, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 17, 2016. She was born on Christmas day, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Martin (John) and Ilo (Thrasher) Byrd. She was the youngest of three daughters. Although she grew up during the Great Depression, she had a happy childhood. She graduated from Devilbiss High School and met the love of her life while attending the Church of the Open Bible. She married Albert W. Hess, Jr. on October 6, 1956 and was blessed with three daughters of her own. She has six grandchildren, four boys and two girls. She devoted her life to her family and taking care of many, many children over the years, including all of her grandchildren. Her years spent in her home on Tremainsville Road were always filled with love and kids. She loved them dearly as if they were her own and they loved her in return.

She was involved in church activities and taught Sunday school to the little children at North Cove Church of God. She loved to cook and bake. You would never leave hungry. She loved to sew and was very crafty. She also loved to shop and took great pride in her appearance. She enjoyed family vacations in Myrtle Beach and attending social functions with her husband for the Toledo Power Squadron. She was a long time member of the Heritage Church of God. One of her greatest attributes was her love for her family, and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memories is her beloved husband of 59 years, Al Hess, Jr., her daughters, Debbie (Joe) Mollen, Becky (John) Poiry and Angela (James) Below. Grandchildren Tyler, Spenser and Conner Mollen, Garrett Poiry, Amber and Alexa Below as well as many other relatives.

Friends may visit the family in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 2-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Heritage Church of God, 3520 Strayer Road, Maumee on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
